What could be better than a perfectly mixed margarita? A flight of margaritas! Sign us up asap for that!
A margarita flight is the perfect way to taste a variety of different margaritas without getting too tipsy in the process (ok, or maybe a little). Plus, it makes for a fun night in with friends!
It’s quickly become my go-to drink when I’m out with friends, and making anything a flight makes it just that much more fun 🙂
What is a Margarita Flight?
In case you haven’t heard of it before, A margarita flight is basically a bunch of mini margaritas that are each a different flavor. The best part about making them at home is that you can customize the flavors to your liking!
Normally, a flight would be about 3 different drink variations but you can make it as many as you’d like.
Flights are great because you get a sampling of different drinks and the presentation is also really fun.
Here are some of our favorite margarita flight recipes to try at home.
Recipe #1: Classic Margaritas
The classic margarita is a timeless cocktail that is perfect for any occasion, and if you follow the recipe below it’s pretty much the “skinny” version. As much as possible, I try to stay away from any pre-made mixes. I just don’t love the taste, or the ingredients…
So this recipe uses just four simple ingredients:
- Lime Juice
- Triple Sec
Simply combine all ingredients in a shaker filled with ice, shake well, and strain into glasses rimmed with salt. Garnish with a lime wedge and enjoy!
It’s the perfect start to our margarita flight!
Recipe #2: Watermelon Margaritas
Nothing says summer like a refreshing watermelon margarita! Which makes it next up on our margarita flight list.
To make this delicious cocktail, you’ll need to put in a tiny bit more effort than with the classic.
- Fresh Watermelon
- Triple Sec
- Lime juice
Start by blending watermelon chunks in a blender until smooth (or muddle them if you don’t have a blender or feel like messing with it). Next, combine the watermelon puree with tequila, Triple Sec, lime juice, and agave nectar in a shaker filled with ice. Shake well and strain into glasses rimmed with salt. Garnish with a watermelon slice and enjoy!
Recipe #3: Strawberry Margaritas
For our last margarita in the flight, we can’t forget about a Strawberry margarita.
It’s a fresh twist on the classic and loved by many because it’s so drinkable.
- Fresh Strawberries
- Lime juice
- Triple Sec
Start by muddling fresh strawberries in the bottom of a shaker. Add tequila, Triple Sec, lime juice, and agave nectar to the shaker and fill with ice. Shake well and strain into glasses rimmed with salt or sugar. Garnish with a strawberry and enjoy!
What to Serve with the Margarita Flight
To me, there’s nothing better than amazing (and simple) Chips & Salsa to go along with a margarita. It’s the perfect combo. You could also add some queso dip or guacamole and you’d pretty much be all set with a perfect app & drinks.
Another fun idea is to do a build-your-own taco bar. Set out all the toppings and let everyone build their own tacos. So good & perfect for a group!
Other options for the Margarita Flight
Some other options for the Margarita flight could be:
- Jalapeno Margarita (great for those who like a little spice)
- Cadillac Margarita (for those fancy friends)
- Mango Margarita (a great tropical, vibe)
How to Serve the Margarita Flight
There really is no wrong way to serve a margarita flight, but we do have a few tips.
Our first tip would be to start with the classic margarita and work your way up to the more flavorful ones. This way, your palate isn’t overwhelmed by too much flavor all at once and you can enjoy each margarita for what it is.
Our second tip would be to make sure you have plenty of lime wedges on hand. This way, you can add a little extra lime juice to each margarita if you feel like it needs it.
Last but not least, don’t forget the salt (or sugar) for the rim! This is a key component to any good margarita.
What Kind of Tequila is best for a Margarita?
There are different types of tequila that can be used for a margarita, but we prefer blanco or silver tequila. It has a more neutral flavor which allows the other ingredients to shine through.
That being said, if you have a favorite tequila that you like to drink, go ahead and use that!
Why we love this Margarita Flight
It’s so easy to make, and once you have all the ingredients for the Classic Margarita — you literally just need to add in one other ingredient to make the different variations in this flight.
The end result is amazing, and it looks like a lot more effort than it really is! Your guests will love it – and most of these ingredients you’ll likely have on hand already!
